Sweater Vest | Crochet with Me

I made a sweater vest! Super cute gingham pattern that is blue and pink with hearts. A great intro to switching colors while crocheting and crocheting clothing!

What I Used

I used 2 skeins size 4 yarn (Big Twist Value in medium rose and corn flower blue) and a size 5.5 hook. It is also helpful to have a yarn needle to attach the sides and shoulders.

Making the Waistband

1. chain x 10 (in blue)
2. chain x 1 to turn the end of the row
3. skipping the most recent chain/slip stitch, single crochet but only go under the back yarn rather than both of the strands you usually go under while single crocheting x 10
4. repeat steps 2 and 3 89 more times (should end with 90 rows crocheted)

The Rest of the Sweater Vest

1. chain x 1 to turn the corner
2. do normal single crochets and follow the heart pattern (more info on how many squares to do below and how to do half squares)
3. finish the edges of the sleeves and the neck by single crocheting three rows around the edges (for the bottom of the arm holes and the v of the neck the first round do single crochets, the next round do one decrease, the last round do two decreases)

Square Pattern for the Front

1. do a row of 10 squares x 3
2. decrease for the squares on each end so you have a row of two half squares and 8 full squares
3. do a row of 8 squares
4. do a row with 3 squares and half a square in the middle to make the v neck
5. do a row with 2 squares and half a square in the middle to make the v neck
6. do a row with 1 square and half a square in the middle to make the v neck
8. repeat steps 4 to 6 on the other side of the front panel

Square Pattern for the Back

1. do a row of 10 squares x 3
2. decrease for the squares on each end so you have a row of two half squares and 8 full squares
3. do a row of 8 squares x 3
4. do a row with 1 square and half a square in the middle to make the dip in the back panel
5. repeat steps 4 on the other side of the back panel

How to do Half a Square (follow the diagram for the correct colors)

1. start the row by doing the crocheting for the full squares
2. when you hit the square that you want to be half do single crochet x7 and decrease
3. slip stitch to turn the corner
4. decrease and single crochet x 6
5. do the rest of the row for the full squares and the start of the next row till you are back to the square you are doing half of
6. single crochet x 5 and decrease
7. slip stitch to turn the corner
8. decrease and single crochet x 4
9. do the rest of the row for the full squares and the start of the next row till you are back to the square you are doing half of
10. single crochet x 3 and decrease
11. slip stitch to turn the corner
12. decrease and single crochet x 2
13. do the rest of the row for the full squares and the start of the next row till you are back to the square you are doing half of
14. single crochet x 1 and decrease
15. slip stitch to turn the corner
16. decrease
17. do the rest of the row for the full squares

Ultimately, I hope this was helpful, and you have fun with your next crochet project.
